Henderson began his basketball journey at Carlton J. Kell High School in Marietta. During his freshman year, he came off the bench and played alongside his brother, C. J., who was a senior on the team. In February 2020, during his sophomore season, he scored a career-high 49 points in a game against Miller Grove High School. He led his team to the semifinals of the Class 5A state tournament, averaging 24 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals per game. By his junior year, he scored 53 points in a game against Osborne High School, breaking the program’s single-game and career scoring records. He was named Class 6A Player of the Year and earned first-team All-State honors.

In May 2021, Henderson signed a two-year, $1 million contract with the NBA G League Ignite. He made his debut on November 17, 2021, scoring eight points and grabbing six rebounds. At just 17 years old, he became the youngest player in G League history. During his time with the Ignite, he averaged 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game in the 2021–22 season. Henderson also participated in the Rising Stars Challenge during the NBA All-Star Weekend.
